Knitting Club
Knitting is alive and well in our Makerspace! I must say I am very surprised at how quickly this has taken off and the immense interest some of our students have shown. Before the winter break, we had two knitting “clubs” operating at our school. We were lucky to have a CYW student who has helped to cultivate the students’ interest in this craft. Although the clubs ran at different times they both did the same types of knitting – needle, finger and loom. I can tell you that I had no idea that there were different kinds of knitting! The knitting club in the Makerspace is run by one of a grade 5 student. She is very excited to be the lead and has both the knowledge and patience to teach the other students. Initially the club started with students from grades 4-6. It is now open to the grades 7 and 8 students as well. It is great to see a mix of both boys and girls in attendance.
Now that it is the new year, we will see the two knitting clubs merge into one when now that the CYW student has moved on to her next placement. It will be interesting to see if the knitting momentum will continue.
